Bridgehampton students visit SUNY Cortland
Bridgehampton Union Free School District juniors and seniors embarked on an interactive college tour series this November as part of the 21st Century Grant awarded to the school.
The students visited Binghamton University , Cornell University, SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oneonta. This was, for many students, their first college tour. The visits, which were student lead, allowed Bridgehampton juniors and seniors to envision themselves in a college setting, which helped open their eyes to understand what they preferred at each of the different colleges. They visited classrooms, walked the campuses and even had a chance to taste the colleges’ food in the dining halls.
With the application process underway for students, visiting prospective colleges and university was priceless. “It was great to see the schools I’m applying to and getting the opportunity to go with my class was great,” senior Mikhail Feaster said. “It was interesting to see how all of the schools differed.”
“It was really fun for me and the most important part was seeing all the different schools from a firsthand perspective,” Junior Neo Simmons added. “I think it will help give me an idea of where to apply next year.”
Bridgehampton hopes to continue this college tour tradition for years to come. “We are so thankful for this grant because we want to continue offering this experience to our students and hope to do it every year,” guidance counselor Danielle Doscher said.
